Broome Information

The Billi likens Broome to a “cosmopolitan outback town”.

Life is very uncomplicated, people are relaxed, the air is thick and rich with humidity one minute, the smell of frangipanis the next, broken by sounds of guitars being strummed and children playing in the streets.

The gardens are green and lush appearing to have sprouted from nowhere out of the rich red soil that binds the town and is known locally as Pindan. The colours of Broome are synonymous with The Kimberley – that rich red, deep intense greens and the most magnificent azure blue of the famous Cable Beach and Roebuck Bay Waters.

The tides are as intense and extreme as the landscape, moving in and out twice on any given day as Broome experiences the second largest tidal movement in the world.

When the tide is out the beach is almost as deep as it is long (no – not really – Cable Beach is very long and makes for the most perfect beach walk).

You can make yourself at home anywhere you like on the beach, take a towel or hire some beach chairs and an umbrella from the beach vendors. People are permitted to drive on to it for the obligatory sunset drink on Cable Beach. Broome Broome Car Rentals even have a particular “Beach Hire Car” complete with 2 camping chairs, an esky and an umbrella to allow you to live like a local!

You can do as much or as little as you like whilst visiting Broome. Many people just soak up the warm weather and the relaxed atmosphere by lying around the pool with a book or enjoying the beautiful beach visits and local restaurants whilst others want to wring as much adventure as they can out of their visit.

For the adventure seekers, Broome can be a fantastic base from which to explore a little further afield. Whether you choose to use it as an entry point to The Gibb River Road between May and September and hire a large 4WD (Broome Broome Car Rentals are the Gibb River Rd specialists www.broomebroome.com.au)with some camping gear or stay along the way at the many station stays or you stay in town and take one of the many incredible flights over and in to the Kimberley and the stunning Buccaneer Archipelago. Whilst there you can get out and experience a real working pearl farm or pummel through the Horizontal Water Falls in a jet boat!

The staff at The Billi are only too happy to help you tailor some of the local experiences to the type of holiday you are looking for.

We do after all, want you to have the very best holiday experience you can whilst you are our guest – after all that’s what keeps people coming back to our cosmopolitan outback town and our special little boutique resort – time and time again!
